Updates From Chalet la Sache

Vivi

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Vivi had to be put to sleep on Tuesday 18th March 2008. She had been part of our lives for 4 very happy years. Up until January this year she had been very healthy and had only visited the vets for her annual inoculations. She developed what seemed like a dry cough, and after several visits to the vet for scans, chest x-rays the vet gave us the devastating news that she thought Vivi had cancer.

At this point she referred us to a specialist in Lyon and even came with us to see him, and was as upset as we were when he delivered the news that she had Malignant histiocytosis. This is the worst form of cancer for a Bernese, as it is extremely aggressive and is almost un-identifiable until it is too late. Four days after this diagnosis she let us know that it was time to say goodbye.

There were so many tears shed by us, all our families and so many guests and friends of the chalet. Vivi was a truly special dog and will be missed by so many people. Calla our puppy is doing her best to step into Vivi's paws, while reminding us that all our dogs are individuals.

Please enjoy the galleries of Vivi's life on flickr.
